The only bespoke packaging company in Monmouthshire has secured £973,000 in funding from Santander Business Banking, to help the firm invest for growth and attract new clients.

Established in 1962, the family run Needham Group found initial success with an original marker pen ink product. The business then expanded by forming a number of partnerships with ink jet manufacturers and laser coding systems, becoming the UK’s exclusive supplier for a number of prominent brands, including Citronix, TYKMA and Macsa Laser.

Risks on the radar

Strong fundamentals and long order books mean that the aerospace sector is fairly resilient in the face of short-term demand fluctuations. However, there is a range of risks and uncertainties that could jeopardise this positive outlook over the next few years.

In particular, the UK’s decision to leave the EU could have significant consequences for the shape of the aerospace supply chain, while geopolitical developments could mean a less supportive external demand environment for the sector.

Manufacturing is by no means a homogenous entity: it’s made up of a host of industries ranging from the manufacture of fully commoditised products to high value-add precision instruments.
