Fintech Week 2016: report finds Britain to be the world's leading fintech centre

An independent report by EY for the UK government has placed Britain at the forefront of the emerging fintech sector.

The country is ranked first among the world's seven leading fintech hubs, from Silicon Valley to Hong Kong. EY based its calculations on four key criteria: the availability of talented staff, access to investment, the nature of government and regulatory policy, and the demand for fintech services. The UK is considered to have the most supportive regulatory regime for the sector, and EY lauded the Financial Conduct Authority as one of the most progressive regulatory bodies with regards to fintech. The report also contains a number of recommendations, which ministers are set to act on.
