Santander partners with The PRECIOUS Awards to applaud entrepreneurial women of colour

The SME of the Year category at the 11th annual PRECIOUS Awards to be sponsored by Santander.

The Precious Awards

Launched in 2007 by Foluke Akinlose MBE who was frustrated at seeing the successes of women of colour rarely being celebrated, The PRECIOUS Awards were founded to support women of colour in the business environment, and create role models for future generations to follow.

The SME category celebrates the contribution of SMEs to the UK economy, and recognises those businesses who have maintained consistent growth with strong financial performance, and effective leadership.

Louise Robinson, Head of Breakthrough, Santander UK said:

We’re thrilled to be supporting the PRECIOUS Awards through our sponsorship of the ‘SME of the Year’ category. Santander Breakthrough has championed the cause of Women Business Leaders since the inception of the programme in 2011. Our programme supports female entrepreneurs through business education programmes, mentor schemes and bespoke events. That’s why the PRECIOUS Awards are the perfect fit for us. Foluke Akinlose, the MD of Precious, herself a successful entrepreneur, shares our vision to support diversity in industry and is a great advocate of Breakthrough, having taken part in a panel at our International Women’s Day event in March.

Foluke Akinlose MBE commented:

I am delighted to welcome Santander as sponsor of the SME of the year category at the 11th Annual PRECIOUS Awards. I am a huge fan of the Breakthrough programme which is passionate about helping women in business succeed. Having a supportive bank can be crucial to the growth and development of a small business and we are proud to be working with an organisation that puts so much valuable resource in to helping SMEs do well.

This year’s PRECIOUS Awards ceremony takes place at the Waldorf Hotel on 21 September 2017. Significant women of colour who have been celebrated or supported the awards in past years include; Geeta Sidhu, founder of organic food delivery Nosh Detox, who since has gone on to build a million pound turnover business. India Gary Martin, COO of Investment Banking Technology & Operations at JP Morgan, Charlene White, journalist and ITV News presenter and Geeta Patel, co-founder and director of Stargate Capital.
